The artist has given the entirety of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

These funds helped locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from performances in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

In they won the trophy in 1996 for their record their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their cash to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her prize across multiple good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," she explained to a publication.

Previously, they contributed their funds to the community center that developed their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group contributed their award to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the condition.

"Winning was ample," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in the city and the second in the city were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
